The Guitar and Other Machines cover was designed (upside-down) through a 4×5 camera looking at a layered glass structure 8vo constructed on a worktop in the studio. The design evolved via a series of test shots made with a 6×6 camera, some of which are shown here. The final setup, with lighting and camera, is shown in the last image in this series. The front cover artwork for all the album formats (LP, MC, CD and DAT) was cropped from a final image captured on the large format camera, no retouching, no Photoshop – straight photography, with all the depth and resolution of film.
