Poster for a workshop

With the completion of Octavo, the demise of Factory records, and the end of the work for the Museum Boymans, the mid-nineties were a lean time for 8vo in the area of design for print. For a number of years the studio had been involved in an increasing number of long-term information design projects for financial and utility companies, as well as working on a major long-term project for Scandinavian Airlines. Welcome opportunities for a return to print design did present themselves. This poster was produced to promote Hamish Muir’s participation in the 1995 edition of the Fortuny Graphic Workshop in Venice. The poster is the first use of the vector version of 8vo’s ‘Interact’ typeface. 8vo always worked at full-scale. When designing on the computer this meant print-outs (at 100%) size to evaluate work in progress. The visual development for this poster was printed on 8vo’s newly acquired A3 ink-jet printer – tiled together to assess on the studio wall.
